"Pupils should receive independent and impartial advice about all of the mainstream education, training and employment opportunities on offer, regardless of their individual circumstances. For those with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, this advice should also include information on the full range of specialist provision that is available.

Local authorities will retain their duty to encourage, enable or assist young people's participation in education or training. They will be required to assist the most vulnerable young people and those at risk of disengaging with education or work Local authorities are also expected to have arrangements in place to ensure that 16 and 17-year-olds have received an offer of a suitable place in post-16 education or training, and that they are assisted to take up a place. This will become increasingly important as the participation age is raised."

In the changing landscape of information, advice and guidance (IAG), U-Explore is delighted to present 'What's Your Destination?', the regionally available, catch-all interface that provides accessible IAG and supports progression routes for vulnerable learners to continue in education and training post-16, enabling them to make informed decisions about their futures.

Specially designed to suit the needs of foundation learners and young people who are NEET (Not in Employment, Education and Training) or pre-NEET, What's Your Destination? is a solution brought about by the need for local authorities to support vulnerable young people to engage in education and training in an efficient way. This is not just about streamlining processes and making them more efficient and trackable, it is about doing so in an exciting way that raises aspirations and involves the young person genuinely improving their future options.

Using the What's Your Destination? interface, young people are supported through the steps of creating an online, person-centred CV, a tool which they can then use to apply for a range of training and employment opportunities listed by the local training providers that are featured on the interface. Users can also delve into the world of work by exploring interactive profiles of a range of industry sectors, showcased through text, video and 360-degree Virtual Tours.

Features

  • Users are supported through the steps of creating an online, person-centred CV, to be used to communicate directly with training and work providers, and explore the latest available opportunities.
  • A 'World of Work' section informs learners about a range of industry sectors through text, video and interactive 360-degree Virtual Tours.
  • There is the ability for clients to add their own branding and bespoke the interface with local training provider profiles.
  • Training providers featured on the interface have the ability to upload opportunities that are available to young people, along with a text-based profile about the organisation, accompanying images and a short showcasing video clip using an administration suite.

Benefits

  • Users' Information is collected into an online CV which reduces the number of times a young person has to repeat the same information to different providers, fulfilling some of the requirements around section 139a of the Learning and Skills Act 2000.
  • Without having to repeatedly re-tell their story, young people can learn how to write a CV and concentrate on the positives of applying for placements, training opportunities or job vacancies rather than focussing on their difficulties.
  • Impartiality and equality of opportunity to all learners is promoted through the visibility of all available training and employment opportunities in a young person's local area.
  • All interactions between students and training providers are trackable through an administration suite, in line with safeguarding policy.
